Cycling Fans: It’s your last chance!
September 10th, 2007
"Tuesday the 11th of September marks the start of the 3rd biggest road race in the United States. The Tour of Missouri starts in Kansas City and wanders over to St. Louis in a 6 stage race that will likely be decided during the Individual Time Trial on Thursday. The Tour of Missouri is one of the last races that the Discovery Channel will ever participate in. This will likely be the last time that anyone will ever see most of them in the same place. Some have already signed contracts with other teams but most are still looking." - Trek Blog
Levi and Alberto in KC!
It's really a special event to have Levi Leipheimer and Alberto Contador both riding the Tour of Missouri. Those two riders are reason enough to go to the race. I know I'll be there!
The Lone Star Century
June 3rd, 2007
The Route
The Lone Star Century started at Oregon Trail Park in Olathe, KS and crossed Lawrence's Clinton Lake before arriving at Lone Star Lake. The Lone Star Century was an "out and back" route with distance options of 25, 45, 72 and 100 miles. I personally was looking forward to the 72 mile route, but at the turn around point I opted for the century. The route was very well marked, and the SAG support was great.
MS150 Training Ride: Shawnee Mission
June 2nd, 2007
Dear MS150 riders,
Ever want to know just how tough the Shawnee Mission training ride (DOD=5) hills are?
Here are some new stats I collected today
Hill Size
Loop II of the ride consists of 1300 feet of climbing. There is a single hill that is 214 feet by itself, which is the climb you may have heard about. It's followed quickly by a 120 foot climb that's not too bad if you keep your momentum from the awesome decent leading into it.

15 pounds, 1500 miles & $1500 in 15 weeks, for the MS150
June 1st, 2007
It's time I stop talking about living a healthy lifestyle and I make my statements with ACTION!
Every year I (and many others) "say" we're going to get in shape, eat healthy, and make a lifestyle change. Heck I said that last year, when I lost 20lbs and rode my bike 1800 miles for the year. But then winter came and I put a third of that weight right back on! It's time to make a serious commitment to change.
A personal (yet public) challenge
As I've watched my weight inch back up to 178lbs and have become quite behind in my cycling for the year, I simply do not feel as good as I would if I were living a healthy lifestyle. I want that life, so I'm making the change... starting today!
As of June 1, I will begin my transformation. My goal is to lose a minimum of 15 lbs over the next 15 weeks. I'll do this by riding a minimum of 1500 miles on my bicycle, hoping to raise $1500 for the MS150.
Streamway Trail Hill Ride
June 1st, 2007
One of my favorite places to ride is the Streamway Trail system that goes from Olathe to the Kansas River. It's a 28 mile (round trip) ride that is very diverse and entertaining... with plenty of hills and curves.
With my new GPS mounted on my mountain bike I logged some elevation stats for the first 2/3rds of that ride.
Over 1400 feet of climbing in under 20 miles
